890 SMT | D
The KTM 890 SMT is a sporty motorbike with supermoto styling.
At 855 mm, the seat height is not exactly low, as is typical for supermotos. The long suspension travel is not fully utilised due to the overly stiff springs, both on the front and rear axle. In addition, the rebound damping on the spring strut is too strong, which is uncomfortable even for supermotos.
The Wilbers conversion relies on a softer spring in combination with more responsive and optimised damping. The shock absorber is 3 mm longer so that the same seat height is achieved with the correct negative travel.
KTM supplies linear springs in the fork with slightly too much preload. As a result, the negative travel at the front is too low and the fork feels very stiff at first. Wilbers relies on a progressive spring which, with the optimised oil, gives a good feeling on the From and at the same time provides the necessary stability for a Supermoto bike.
This allows the bike to really attack corners and even bumpy tracks are inviting!
