WESA Dynamic for BMW R 1300 GS

WESA Dynamic is the Wilbers solution for the Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) system of the BMW R 1300 GS. The original electronic control system remains fully intact and is combined with a specifically optimised Wilbers suspension mechanism.

The objective is to unite the intelligent factory electronics with a more precisely defined, comfort-oriented mechanical foundation – individually configured for rider weight, load requirements and intended use.

Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) – Standard Operating Principle

Unlike the previous ESA system, the new DSA features dynamic damping adjustment as well as two defined spring rates, which are automatically activated depending on the current load condition.

An adaptive ride height control system is optionally available: At low speeds, the motorcycle lowers by 30 mm and returns to its normal riding height from approximately 50 km/h onwards.

The mechanical base setup of the standard suspension is factory-defined and designed to accommodate a broad range of riders.

Analysis of the Standard Setup

Our dynamometer testing revealed increased friction values and comparatively firm low-speed compression damping. As a result, smaller road imperfections and potholes are transmitted more directly to the rider.

The electronic control system operates within this mechanically defined damping characteristic.

WESA Dynamic – Technical Optimisation

For WESA Dynamic, the original suspension unit is precisely revised and equipped with specially developed Wilbers components.

  • Proprietary Wilbers piston with friction-reducing piston band
  • Comfort-oriented, finely tuned damping setup
  • Individually defined spring rate
  • Full integration of the original DSA functionality
  • Fully serviceable and rebuildable design

The result is significantly more sensitive response behaviour combined with stable vehicle control – restoring the characteristic, comfort-focused GS riding experience.

Integrated Lowering Option

WESA Dynamic is optionally available with integrated suspension lowering:

  • BMW R 1300 GS: 30 mm lowering
  • BMW R 1300 GS Adventure: 20 mm or 50 mm
  • Also available in combination with factory-fitted sport suspension
  • Compatible with or without the optional adaptive ride height control

The lowering is implemented directly within the suspension unit, without restricting electronic functionality or the standard adjustment range.

Result

Full DSA system integration remains unchanged. At the same time, the mechanical foundation becomes more precise, more comfortable and individually defined.
