ABE – Not to Be Underestimated!
For years, it has been noticeable that some suppliers of technical products for vehicle modifications advertise with the phrase “ABE or TÜV in preparation”.
However, it is increasingly apparent that such statements are often not true, and that neither an ABE nor a TÜV certificate is actually being prepared or supplied later. Of course, in rare cases we also experience delays in receiving the documents, but we always inform our customers as soon as they are available and ready for download – entirely proactively.
The risk of carrying out modifications without an ABE or TÜV certificate lies solely with the rider or owner. Ultimately, they must expect their vehicle to be taken off the road during a police inspection. In such a case, the operating licence, and therefore also the essential insurance cover, is void, and continuing to ride is generally prohibited. At the latest, during the next MOT, there is the risk that the inspector will not issue the test certificate.
Things can get far worse if a biker is involved in an accident and an assessor later determines that the operating licence was void due to an illegal modification. In such cases, the insurance company may refuse to cover the damage.
As a manufacturer and supplier of all our suspension products, we issue either an ABE or at least a TÜV certificate for every product, ensuring that an operating licence is always valid. Exceptions apply, of course, to suspensions for special conversions such as custom bikes or vehicles not approved for road use.
Yes, that doesn’t make a product cheaper – but it does make it safer. The extremely high standards we set for our products have even enabled us to extend the warranty to up to 10 years.
Every suspension with a valid ABE comes with a guarantee card in credit card format, so it can easily be carried and shown when needed. The QR code on the card leads directly to the ABE.
