BMW BoxerCup Promoted by Wilbers in Zolder!

Zolder/Belgium - The BMW Motorrad BoxerCup Promoted by Wilbers started into its second race weekend with a field of 16 riders.

Even the free practice sessions were again marked by the internal team duel between the two Wunderlich riders Christoph "Fifty" Höfer - the double winner of the opening race at the Lausitzring - and Nate Kern from the USA.

In the first qualifying session, however, local hero Arie Vos (NL) drove the reference time of 1:43.485. In the second timed practice with increased temperatures, most of the pilots were unable to improve their time.

Only Bram Lambrecht and Marvin Jürgens, who form the second row of the grid with Harald Kitsch, were able to improve their time.

In the first race there was a big drama around co-favourite Nate Kern: the US-American stalls his engine on the grid, raises his hand and has to start from the pit lane. However, he disregarded the red light at the pit exit and was disqualified. Meanwhile, pole setter Arie Vos takes the lead right from the start, ahead of Kicxstart journalist Bram Lambrecht, who also started as a guest entrant, followed by Christoph "Fifty" Höfer.

As guest entrants do not collect any championship points, Höfer's third place was enough to achieve the full 25 points - the best possible result in view of the zero number of his fiercest competitor, Nate Kern. Youngster Marvin Jürgens (Team Burgdorf Motorsport) finally won the fight for the valuable points and Harald Kitsch (4th / Team Illmberger Carbon) was relegated to the places. Fritz Spenner (Team ZF) said goodbye to the trio after a crash, but was still able to take 8th place.

The race Sunday was not under a good star. In the first runs of the day there were breakdowns and restarts, which caused a considerable delay in the schedule. Extreme track pollution caused by burst engines caused the organisers to cancel the remaining heats on Sunday afternoon.
After the terrible accident at Oschersleben, the organizers - understandably - did not want to take any incalculable risks.
